Cherly Lucien serves clients in the area of criminal defense and civil litigation. During law school, Ms. Lucien was an intern at the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Southern District of Florida and at the Conviction Integrity Review Division of the Office of the State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit. At the Federal Public Defender’s Office, Ms. Lucien was tasked with researching and drafting pleadings such as motions to suppress physical evidence obtained in a warrantless search. While working with the Conviction Integrity Review Division, Ms. Lucien reviewed case files for several criminal defendants to determine whether they were wrongfully convicted. Ms. Lucien also served as an intern at the City of Miami Office of the City Attorney, Litigation and Appeals Division, where she researched and prepared legal memoranda on legal issues at the state and federal level such as consent decrees, qualified immunity, and HIPAA litigation exceptions.

Ms. Lucien also served as an intern for the Honorable Chris McAliley at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She conducted analysis of legal issues and assisted with reviewing motions for both criminal and civil cases and she participated in a settlement conference for a securities fraud case, where she learned to appreciate the complexity of federal securities laws.

During law school at Florida International University, Ms. Lucien served as an Articles Editor for FIU Law Review. As a staff member for FIU Law Review, her note discussed why a prosecutor should be required to disclose exculpatory evidence to a criminal defendant during the plea-bargaining stage.

Additionally, Ms. Lucien served as the Vice-President for the Student Bar Association, Student Ambassador for FIU Law Admissions Office, and Secretary for BLSA. Ms. Lucien was also one of the founding members for the Haitian-American Law Student Association at FIU Law, where she served as the Vice-President for the organization.
